10 TIPS
How To Find The Right Landscaper For Your Job
- Don’t rush into anything! Allow plenty of time to plan for your project. Determine what needs to be done, draw a plan.
- Ask friends, family members and neighbors if they know a designer that they would recommend to you. Check BBB Consumer Guide, local community directories. Ask for referrals from designers and others who work in the design industry.
- If the company is installing plant material, check to make sure they have a nursery stock license from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. This ensures that the plant material they use has been grown in a nursery and not dug from the wild.
- Check that the firm has a federal identification number that designates them as a legitimate company.
- Make sure the firm has a sales tax license and that they are insured.
- Ask for customer references and then phone those referrals.
- Professionals arrive on time, take photographs, and take measurements or draw sketches while there.
- Ask for an itemized list of plant materials and plant sizes that will be included in your project.
- Firms that have Certified Nursery and Landscape Professionals on staff, show that they are ready to take that extra step to ensure the professionalism of their employees.
- Create a Design file, and keep track of all documents that pertain to your project including, bids, the contract, the plan, invoices/bills, and cancelled checks.
